What can you do with an account with ea.azure.com privileges?

Hi,

I’ve been taking a look at the ea.azure.com portal and I’ve been reading a little documentation across the internet – yet I still don’t understand the scope and capabilities of the portal and the users within.

Do users in there, for example, have the right to create/delete global administrator accounts on the Azure platform  (e.g. Azure Active Directory, Azure, etc).  Or is the limit of their power to simply work with licensing and agreements? What is the risk if someone does compromise one of the accounts with rights in this portal?

Azure VM name when restoring from Backup Vault

I've been experimenting with restoring Azure VMs using Backup Vault and works great.  This will solve DR needs VERY easily so thank you!

One weird issue (bug?) is that when I try to restore from a recovery point and enter a VM name, I get "Specified name is already in use" for names that don't exist at all within my account.  This causes a slight issue since even though I can rename the VM name within the RDP session, the name listed within the Azure Portal doesn't seem to change which could become an administrative nightmare down the road.  Is this a bug?  Is there a way to rename the name that appears in the Azure Portal?

Thanks.

Are affinity groups still relevant and best practice?

$

I watched the Azure Internals session from Mark Russinovich at Tech Ed 2013. In that session he mentioned in passing that the usefulness of Affinity Groups changed with the networking overhaul in Azure datacenters last year such that an affinity group no longer ties services to a cluster. Instead it now simply associates them with a subregion.

Mark is an Azure god as I think we all know, so I trust implicitly anything he says. But I am wondering if I could have misinterpreted his comment in some way? Could anyone offer any more color to this or offer their own thoughts? is using affinity groups still considered best practice?

I ask because I am considering removing all of our affinity groups. It has annoyed me to no end since the new html Azure Portal that it shows all of our affinity groups created in the old portal as a guid (how helpful right?). The fact that Microsoft has not seen fit to fix this is another indication that affinity groups just are no longer relevant.

Thoughts?

Hi,

I'm currently testing the AAC Preview 2 with our tenant and i would like to enable the option that allows to filter by group membership but it seems that it's not something i can reconfigure even after restarting the configuration wizard. I tried then to uninstall and reinstall (painfull process), i even disabled and reactivate dirsync on the tenant but no way, the wizard is always detecting the previous configuration !!!

I would like to get rid of it and start from scratch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

The general available azure portal (manage.windowsazure.com) shows operation logs only for last 7 days. I could not find any facility to extend the retention period for long term usage. Please help me by sharing the details how to backup operation logs and display for long term.

And also I would like to know, where it is storing the operational log details and each resource log details shown in the graph.

Thanks,

Ansar

Switching directories/subscriptions in the new portal

$

My account (it's an Office365 account) has access to 5 different directories and 6 different subscription - one directory has two subscriptions. My account is a Global Administrator in each directory. One directory is the one from Office365 and the other 4 are for subscriptions created with some other Microsoft Account (Live ID). In the old portal (manage.azure.com) I can access all subscriptions and directories and resources therein, without any trouble.

The problem: in the new Azure portal (portal.azure.com) I can switch to the Office365 directory or to only 3 of the other directories. For one of the Live ID-based directories, when I switch to it with the menu in the top-right of the page, it switches me back tot he Office365 directory every time. Clearing browser caches, using private mode, trying different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome) makes no difference. I cannot access one of those directories in the new portal no matter what - and there are things I can only do there (RBAC for example).

Is there a way to fix this?

Syncing Password of selected OU/subdomain

Hi,

We are migrating one of our child domains to Office365. We want to use Azure AD Sync tool to sync password of our child domain users to Azure AD. I understand we have to sync all accounts to make GAL on Office365 identical to On-premises GAL but is it possible to sync password of only a sub-domain or OU specific users and not of entire forest?

Thanks

Is there a way to export settings for a resource group in new portal?

The old portal allowed you to export the XML for the settings for a VNET. I don't see the equivalent feature in the new portal. I'd like to be able to download a copy of the settings for an entire resource group to use as a template file for creation of a new resource group deployment using the New-AzureResourceGroupDeployment PowerShell script.

Problem with DNS

Hi,

I have a DNN site set up with Azure from the website gallery. I have set up the DNS properly from my hosting provider to go to www.businessnetworkalliance.ca and when I go to this address, my website comes up but the address in the url redirects me to my azure address: bna.azurewebsites.net. I've done this for other websites and the url displays correctly. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Azure Resource Manager Template Deployment problems/questions

$

Hi,

I have a few questions about Template Deployments using ARM.

I'm using a template based on the Azure Website + SQL template that comes with the VS Cloud Deployment Project and the ones that can be downloaded as per https://alexandrebrisebois.wordpress.com/2015/02/02/saving-azure-resource-manager-templates-to-json-files-on-disk/.

Firstly, when I run the deployment multiple times I get this error (even though I haven't changed the Location parameter at all):

New-AzureResourceGroupDeployment : 4:10:57 PM - Resource Microsoft.Sql/servers/databases
'myservername/mydatabasename' failed with message 'The property 'location' is
read-only and cannot be modified.'

Secondly, the Alerts and Autoscale settings (I ensured the Enabled parameter was true) don't show up in the Portal even though the deployment status was successful. The scale part in the new portal shows up fine, but I do get a loading error for the Alerts consistently.

Thirdly, the example template.json files hardcode the location of the insights stuff (metrics, alerts, autoscale) to East US rather than the same region as the website - does anyone know why that is? Does it matter if I change them to the same region as the site - it deploys successfully according to the script. I tried changing Autoscale to East US to see if that fixed the problem, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Audit Logs failing to load

The Audit Logs in the Azure Portal are not working at all for me today. Is there a deployment going on right now? Is this affecting other people or just me?
