PowerShell connect to tenant id fails

Hello,
I try to login to Azure using the following command "Connect-AzAccount -ServicePrincipal -Credential $cred -Tenant $tenantId". Of course I have defined my params for used variables. But it never accepts my tenant id, it always returns:

Connect-AzAccount : AADSTS90002: Tenant 'd*****-19**-42**-b3**-*********cd' not found. This may happen if there are
no active subscriptions for the tenant. Check with your subscription administrator.
Trace ID: 32a201d6-ccb9-49f0-8c8f-3722ba799000

But this tenant ID is definitely ok, I am also able to use AzureRM, that works with this tenant id

$cred = Get-Credential
Login-AzureRmAccount -Credential $cred
Get-AzureRMSubscription
Select-AzureRmSubscription -SubscriptionName d*****-19**-42**-b3**-*********cd

I have to admit that I have registered two subscriptions for this user. The user is definitely Service Administrator for this subscritpion.

any idea what I am doing wrong?

Finally I would like to have a PS Script which starts or stops a VM in Azure.

kind regards,
Dieter

Assign Azure Policy to all Management Groups but dont enforce if user is in Azure AD or AD-sync'd group

Hi,

we are using one Azure policy to enforce several vm SKUs. This worked until now but now there is one user, that needs to deploy one resource with another SKU.

How do you guys deal with exceptions? Is it possible to configure the policy with an if-statement like "if sku is not in allowed skus and user is not in azure ad group, deny"?

Right now the only possible solutions seem to be:

- Exclude resource group from policy assignment

- Assign policy on resource group level with automation job except this resource group

- Exclude a "premium resource group" from assignment, create service there, relocate to users resource group

Best regards,

Hendrik

Cost Analysis is showing linear projection only

When I checked my cost analysis last night, I got a little shock.

Here is the story:

I started to use my subscription on October 19th and spent €20 so far.

My estimated costs are at about €90-€100 per month:

  • a MySQL server (Basic, 1 vCore(s), 10 GB) - roughly €25/month
  • a Web App with on a S1 instance - roughly €60/month

The webapp currently is on a free tial plan until 2019-11-20.

The Cost Analysis (not Cloudyn) shows me a forecast of €180 by the end of November and €520 by the end of December, which I think is completely wrong. This looks like the analyses does a linear projection but not taking into account which resources I use.

Am I calculating something wrong here and the costs really will increase that much or is the Cost Analysis just wrong?

Zap.

Azure site recovery - move on premise to cloud

Is there a way to test on-premise to cloud?,... is there a simulation?

I am wanting to learn and other than having a on-premise workstation I am not sure how to practice a migration to azure?

If there is no way to test without a live on premise servers can you recommend a link with good picture as well as a good you tube video?   the problem that I have been noting is that you tube video do not always keep up with the technological improvements.

azure migration versus azure site recovery for on premise to cloud.

Is azure migration simply like azure site recovery with more monitoring of progress details during the migration?

It cost money as well.

during prepare infrastructure for ASR, the site recovery registration key is requested when installing the configuration server and process server. Where do I get this site recovery registration key?

during prepare infrastructure for ASR, the site recovery registration key is requested  during the configuration steps of installing the configuration server and process server.  The window say Micrsoft Azure Site Recovery Unified Setup (step 4)

See the link below:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/physical-azure-disaster-recovery

Step 3- I thought this software is free?  why is it asking me to accept 3rd party terms.   I am not wanting to migrate from on premise to azure.

Step 7- Is MySQL the open source version?,...  can we use MS SQL or it definitely have to be MySQL (open source)?  And this MySQL is installed on the configuration server?

Step 8 - Would I select Yes for VMware virtual servers?

Step 10 - why do we need two NICs?   Can we use the same NIC for both connectivity to on-premise machine and connectivie to Azure component for failback?  It mentions port 443 to be used by a web server to orchestrate replication operations,.. can I assume this is the  unified configuration server and process server?,...how does the web server need to be configured?   Just want to confirm that the "unified configuration and process server "is the same as the "configuration server" stated in Prepare Infrastructure>3) Source prepare - step 1 : select configuration server.

Step 11- it states that the environment is VMware.   How does it know this during this install?,...( I do not see any option to choose VMware during this setup?)especially if this configuration server is installed on a physical server?    (do you recommend a physical server or creating this on Vmware,... which way from your experience is simpler and easier?)

Step 8- Environment Details - would choose Yes since this is VMware migration.  Is this how the configuration server understands that this is VMware in step 11?

ASR - migrate vmware virtual machines to azure. Enable replication questions?

ASR - migrate vmware virtual machines to azure.   Enable replication questions?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/physical-azure-disaster-recovery#enable-replication

Enable replication :

step 3- if we are migrating VMware virtual machines what would we choose for "Machine Type" ( it says to choose physical machines but we are migrating VMware VMs which are not physical machines).   Note- I have not installed a configuration server hence cannot see the options for this step.  What option would we choose for VMware?

Would the steps on the link above require use to install a new configuration server if we are choosing to move physical servers as opposed to VMware VMs?    Step 8 - Environment Details - during configuration server installation states to select "No" if these are physical servers.   Since we choose "Yes" for VMware VMs because they are not physical server then we would have to create another configuration server???

Step 8 - what is " configure later to select the Azure network per machine"?,... how is this different from "configure now for selected machines"?  Why would we choose to configure later?,...  is this if we want to migrate some of the other VMware Vms to another vnet or another subnet in the same vnet?   When this step says to

Step 8-"select the azure network per machine" does it mean to choose the same subnet?,... thinking this is easiest?

Is it better to migrate the database servers separately from the application servers during this step 8?,... in order to place the database servers in one subnet.   If we did not care about this type of segmentation using subnet then it would be best to migrate an entire system at the same time selecting "Configure now for selected machines"?

Step 9- we have VMware VMs.  Is there a VMware option since this example is using physical machines.

Step 10- Mobility server is installed on the VMware VM's -- just confirming again.

Step 11 - how do we know what  kind of replication policy setting to configure?  There is RPO(recovery point objective) threshold, Recovery Point retention in hrs., and app-consistent snapshot frequency---- How do we know what numbers to enter for the three options here?

For example, If I have 2 different regions and I want to connect them with eachother. For this case I have two options. I can enable peering or I can create VPN gateway.

What is difference between in both of them and what is recommended way?

what happens if you failback from azure to vmware using ASR?

what happens if you use ASR failback from azure to vmware:

1) You have successfully migrated to Azure form on premise.   If you do not delete the (on premise) original VMs in VMware what happens upon failback to on premise VMware VMs?,... what happens to the original on premise VMs?   If we remove some of the VMware hosts (physical host) can the VMs that are now in the cloud failback?,... let's say we have 10 VMware hosts and we remove five VMware host to include one VMware host which was the original source VMware host.

If we remove some VMware host (on premise) however none of the removed VMware house (was the actual source VMware) what will happen during failback to on premise VMware host?

Azure AD and on premise - authentication

$

Hi @all,
I couldn't find a clear answer for 2 questions:

After I enables the synchronization between the Azure AD and the on premise Active Directory,

1. is is possible to change my password either in Azure AD or OnPrem AD and it will work in both direction?

2. is it possible to activate the MFA function for all users independent if they log-on on Azure AD or OnPrem AD?
(I mean do they get a MFA dialog if they log-on on the OnPrem AD?)

Thanks for helping.

George
