Why do I have to reenter my password every day with the new (HTML5) portal but not with the old (Silverlight) one?

When I was using the old (Silverlight) version of Management Portal the applet would often tell me my session has expired, then forward me to LiveId site, then I'd be forwarded back and be logged in without reentering the password.

Not so with the new (HTML5) portal - it tells me my session is expired, then I'm forwarded to a page that asks to reenter my password. So I have to reenter my password every day. This is big time inconvenient.

Why the difference?
