page not available through staging URL but can be viewed in VM through RDP

I upgraded my Azure SDK to 2.0 and tried to publish my service to staging environment, however there is nothing at the generated URL, just some browser's default 'page not available' message for not-existing URLs. I connected to the instance through RDP and tried to view my site using IIS manager there - it works fine in IE at http://10.x.x.x:8080/ I guess I'm missing something really simple, but can't figure out what. I also encountered some log records in event viewer while investigating, not sure if they are useful:

1)  Error: Unable to find container role {staging-url}.{role-name}_IN_0. in the Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Azure ->AppAgentRuntime

2) Warnings in IIS section like 'The application '/' belonging to site '1' has an invalid AppPoolId 'DefaultAppPool' set. Therefore, the application will be ignored.'

I also have 1 error in diagnostics data with <EventData><Data>WaIISHost.exe</Data></EventData> node in xml and some SecurityExceptions in intellitrace stating 'Requested registry access is not allowed' in case it has something to do with the problem
